Content Inside: 10 ways of Increasing Traffic to your Website It is one thing to have a great website, however, if no one knows you exist it won’t help you raise a lot of funds, which is why we have produced this guide to help you drive as much traffic as possible to your website and maximise your fundraising efforts. Offline Tactics 1. Advertise your URL. Put your website address everywhere. If you have an office, get your web address printed on your door, windows, etc. Ensure that every bit of stationery has your website address: business cards, letterhead, brochures, statements, invoices, with compliments, etc. Make sure your website is on your Powerpoint presentations and exhibition panels and on your outgoing emails. 2. Word of Mouth. It sounds simple enough, that’s because it is. Tell everyone you know about your website and word will spread. Online Tactics 3. Link Building. If you belong to a fundraising association or other peak bodies, ask them to include your website in their online directory of members. This will increase your visibility to search engines, give you credibility, and raise your page ranking. It can be worth checking where your closest competitors are linked. To find out, simply type your competitor’s name in a search engine, or in Google you can type link:www.charitieshouse.com to list web pages that have links pointing to the CharitiesHouse home page. Note there can be no space between "link:" and the web page URL. 4. Social Media. Set up a profile on www.linkedin.com and join non-profit groups and post helpful suggestions. Create a blog to tell about what your organisation is doing. Research other blogs and discussion forums and post helpful comments on them. Setup a Facebook page for your organisation so other people can become fans. In all cases, be careful not to deliberately “sell” your services or organisation, as this puts people off – always try to be objective. Solicit feedback, so that people participate in what you are doing. When commenting on other blogs or forums, make sure you put your web address underneath your name so that it will be picked up by search engines.
