The second season actually finished quite nicely last week with the conclusion of the two-part story concerning Watanuki's final acceptance of Himawari's "particular condition". So episode 13 brought us a little lightning god who happened to be good at fixing electrical appliances, and an evening oden party as the Oden kitsunes came back, along with most of the popular spirits in the series. Watanuki was stuck having to divide his attention between Himawari, the Zashiki Warashi, the pipe fox, and even the little shouta kitsune. All-in-all it was a pleasant episode, but after the edginess of most of the other episodes in "Kei", this episode was a bit of a let down for me. Never-the-less, I enjoyed the second season of xxxHolic as much as the first, but in a slight different way. While my favorite parts of the first season tended to be those episodes that dealt with the traditional spirits, my favorite episodes in the second season tended to be those that dealt with some of the conflicts that Watanuki had to face. (And to a good extent, I really wanted to see more of the Spider Queen - in more ways that one. <g>) So I am recommending xxxHolic Kei as much as I recommended the first season of xxxHolic. If you are looking for a modern fantasy with interesting characters and quirky situations this adaptation of the CLAMP manga may well meet your approval. Now, if only the creative team behind "Kanokon" could get the rights to do a third season of xxxHolic - just imagine what they could do with Yuuko, the Spider Queen, and so on. <LOL> Dave Baranyi .
